Save the Children keeps 730 community classes open across Afghanistan
14 June 20265 min readSave the Children

In a country where public secondary education for girls is banned, community-based classes run by trained local women remain the only route to literacy.
Save the Children currently supports 730 community-based education classes across nine Afghan provinces, reaching approximately 21,000 children โ the majority of them girls aged 7 to 12.
Classes are held in private homes, mosques, and village halls, taught by women trained by the organisation's education specialists. Each class runs the national curriculum in Dari or Pashto.
"Every last child" โ including the ones the state has told to go home.
